Talk about going mainstream. As if Minecraft were not immersive enough, Microsoft is merging an interesting aspect of reality into its virtual world-building franchise, with the world’s first ever live Minecraft universe, reports The Verge.
While there reportedly have been musical events in Minecraft in the past, what makes this live concert special is the fact that it’ll replicate a real concert happening on Wednesday night this week at The Gathering – an annual tech festival held in Hamar, Norway – simultaneously, in real-time, Norway’s The Local reports. A team of gamers will work backstage to sync the movements of the musicians’ characters in the game with their flesh-and-blood counterparts for maximum immersion.
“There have been plenty of other music experiences in the Minecraft universe, but not like this,”This will be the world’s first live Minecraft concert.”
Erik Heisholt, organizer, The Gathering.
Also according to Mr. Heisholt, the Minecraft version of the concert will have server space for around 2,000 to 3,000 virtual spectators, giving the feel of “seeing a show in small concert venue.” Famed DJs Lemaitre, Broiler and AlunaGeorge will reportedly be performing in both worlds.
Update: Microsoft itself had no involvement with the event (except of course that they own Minecraft), and Microsoft or Mojang had no involvement in putting together the concert.Further reading: Microsoft, Minecraft
