Minecraft cracks down on branded promotions in servers or mods

While Minecraft is a very fun experience, some have taken to the Microsoft-owned game to advertise unrelated products or to promote causes. The folks over at Mojang are not too happy about this and have just announced that they have added a new section to the Commercial Usage Guidelines for Minecraft which relates to branded promotions in servers or mods.

Under the new guidelines, ad agencies, corporations, or politicians, can not build a Minecraft mod or server that promotes unrelated products in playable form. Additionally, these individuals also can not build a Minecraft map or mod that markets a movie or TV show.

The new guidelines only apply to companies or organizations that are using Minecraft to sell products, so regular fans of a movie, TV show, restaurant, and other things, are still free to build content that represents or celebrate. The changes also won't affect the usual server and video monetization, and Mojang assures that Minecraft will still be the best place to make money from creativity.
