Microsoft has announced that guest access is now generally available in Yammer communities, the company’s enterprise social network. Guest support had been in private preview since December last year, and it lets users easily and securely collaborate with people outside of their organization.

“External collaboration is a key ingredient for the success of any organization. Yammer guests allow you to call in experts, such as consultants or vendors, from outside your organization. Users can invite guests to a community and quickly start a rich conversation by sharing access to community resources like files. This ease-of-use makes external collaboration one of the most used features in Yammer today,” the company explained.

With this update, Yammer networks admins will be able to invite guests to their community to facilitate rich conversations. Azure AD B2B guest support in Yammer lines it up with other Office 365 services, such as Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint. It brings a bunch of features and capabilities for businesses, including easy and compliant external collaboration on community resources, simplified guest modes, and more.

Microsoft noted that the Azure AD B2B guest functionality is already configured for all Yammer communities provisioned after December 15th, 2020. However, the feature is disabled by default for existing Yammer networks, and IT admins will need to update their security settings to allow guest access. To do this, head to the Yammer network admin center > Security Settings > External messaging settings. You can read about managing the guest functionality in your Yammer network on this support page.
