According to a new report, Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system failed to boost 2012 year-end holiday sales. In fact, Windows-powered notebook sales dropped 11% during the holidays (November 18 to December 22, 2012). This data does not include the Surface RT.
“Despite the hype, and hope, around the launch of Windows 8, the new operating system did little to boost holiday sales or improve the year-long Windows notebook sales decline,” the report states. The report is based on weekly data gathered from BestBuy, Wal-Mart, and retail websites, but does not include sales from the Surface RT or any device sold at a Microsoft Store.
It seems that notebooks and flat-panel TVs were the popular items this past holiday season accounting for $2 billion in total dollars sales. The data also mentions that consumers jumped on-board the holiday sales during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Thanksgiving Day, and sales during December dropped, which doesn’t surprise many who do their shopping ahead of time.Microsoft, Windows 8
