Microsoft’s Surface Studio 2 goes on sale in select markets today

Nearly two years after the launch of the original Surface Studio, its successor the Surface Studio 2 starts shipping in select markets today. The new all-in-one PCs is the most powerful Surface ever, featuring 7th gen Intel quad-core Core i7 processors and NVIDIA Pascal graphics with 50 percent faster GPU.

Starting at $3,499 in the US, the Surface Studio 2 also remains the most expensive Surface device you can buy. You can configure it with up to 32GB of RAM, 2TB of storage and an NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070, and the most high-end config will cost you $4,799. However, only the base model with 16GB of RAM, 1TB of SSD storage and an NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 can be purchased in the US as of this writing.

The Surface Studio still ships with an excellent 28” PixelSense display that kept the same 4500 x 3000 resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio, but it’s now 38 percent brighter. Compared to the first generation model, the Surface Studio 2 kept the same four USB 3.0 ports, but the Mini DisplayPort port has been replaced by an USB-C port, something we wish Microsoft also did on its new Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2.

For now, Microsoft has only announced Surface Studio 2 availability in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. More markets are likely to be announced in the coming months.
