Microsoft’s new ads explain the updated Surface Pen and Type Covers

Today’s the day when Microsoft’s newest Surface devices, the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, are officially available for purchase and delivery. Accordingly, Microsoft is pulling out all the stops to make sure people are well aware of the general awesomeness of the new machines.

Part of what makes them such incredible productivity powerhouses are the new Surface Pen and Type Cover accessories, and Microsoft has released some new ads highlighting their newest features.

The new pen improves on the Surface Pro 3’s version by offering up industry-leading latency, parallax (essentially, how straight a line the pen can draw), and palm detection, along with a full 1,024 levels of pressure. New pen tips and magnetic storage round out the features that make the new pen such a marked improvement.

The new Type Cover, which comes in two versions, with and without a fingerprint scanner, provides a more traditional design and layout compared to the original Surface Pro 3 Type Cover, with improved spacing and a quieter mechanism. The trackpad has also been improved, with a 40% increase in size. Both versions of the new Type Cover work with the Surface Pro 3, and so that’s a nice bonus for folks who aren’t yet ready to upgrade to a newer machine.

The Surface Pen is included with the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, and the new Type Covers are $129.99 for the standard version, and $159.99 for the version sporting a Windows Hello-ready fingerprint scanner.
