Microsoft’s Device Recovery Tool gets support for Alcatel Idol 4 Pro

Alcatel Idol 4S

Since the Alcatel Idol 4 Pro finally start shipping in select European countries last month, consumers who purchased the Windows 10 Mobile handset have complained about a couple of issues. First of all, the rebranded version of the Alcatel Idol 4S has yet to officially receive the Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update, which is currently only available via the Windows Insider Program.

More importantly, owners of the premium handset could use Microsoft’s Windows Device Recovery Tool to reinstall Windows 10 Mobile in case anything went wrong. Fortunately, Microsoft finally fixed this issue with the version 3.12.243012 of WDRT, which now supports the Idol 4 Pro (via Windows Central). You can read the full release notes below:

Windows Device Recovery Tool delivers a mandatory update

  • Support for Honeywell Dolphin 75e and CT50 of win 10 devices.
  • Added new device for Alcatel IDOL 4 Pro WP.
  • Updated the Ja-jp localization resources.
  • Accessibility improvements.

If you haven’t downloaded it yet, the Windows Device Recovery Tool is available on this page. As for the Alcatel Idol 4 Pro, it’s still much more expensive (£419 on the UK Microsoft Store) than its Idol 4S cousin, which is currently available for just $199 on the US Microsoft Store. Hopefully, Microsoft will discount it soon as, to be honest, there are probably not many consumers still willing to spend so much on a Windows 10 Mobile handset.
