Microsoft works with Redgate to help make Azure SQL Data Warehouse migrations more efficient

A little more than a month ago, Microsoft announced that its scalable data warehouse service
Azure SQL Data Warehouse was now available in 18 regions worldwide. Following this expanded availability, the company is now providing companies an easier way to try the service with Data Platform Studio, a new migration tool provided by long-time partner Redgate. Matt Usher Program Manager, SQL Engineering at Microsoft explained all the details in a new blog post on the Azure blog:

Redgate’s Data Platform Studio (DPS) provides a simple and reliable way to migrate on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure SQL Data Warehouse. DPS automates the data upload and applies the most appropriate compatibility fixes and optimizations. It reduces the timeframe for a first data migration from days to hours, giving companies an easy way to explore the potential of the SQL Data Warehouse.

In the following video, David Bick and Tom Hodgson from Redgate explain how to use Data Platform Studio to load existing data into Azure SQL Data Warehouse:

Data Platform Studio is currently free to use for one-off migrations, and you can get more information about it on the official website.
