Microsoft will soon introduce several features to make it hard for culprits to gain unauthorized access to your data stored in Windows Phone handsets. Fred Humphries, Vice President of U.S. Government Affairs for Microsoft announced in a blog post that Microsoft has been working closely with other firms in the wireless industry to strengthen the anti-theft technologies for smartphones.
Microsoft teamed up with CTIA’s Smartphone Anti-Theft Voluntary Commitment in April earlier this year to bring these features by July 2015. Windows Phone’s ‘Find My Phone’ feature will be bestowed with several advanced functionalities. These upcoming features will include:
- The ability to remotely erase personal data from your smartphone.
- Make every feature of the device locked, except the ability to call 911. Popularly known as Activation Lock.
- Preventing configuration/setup/reactivation without owner’s consent.
- Once the legit owner has got the device back, the ability to recover all the settings and data later on.
These features will be made available to all the handsets running on Windows Phone 8.0 and newer. Though, it will require approval from the respective OEM and carrier.Further reading: Protection, Windows Phone
