If you’re using a Windows 10 device, you’ve probably been through it: you see us writing about new app updates for Microsoft apps on Windows 10 or Windows 10 Mobile, but when you go clicking that “Check for updates” button on the Windows Store you don’t get anything new. For example, some users just received today an update for the People app that we first reported 8 days ago.
If you’re wondering what is happening with these updates for Microsoft native Windows 10 apps, we may now have an explanation as Microsoft redditor @jenmsft shared this explanation on the Windows Phone subreddit:
Just to give some clarification – the People app updates will eventually roll out to everyone on Windows 10. Apps now have Insider rings (just like Windows) so they can get early feedback on some of the work they’re doing before they release it publically, which is why the update isn’t yet available for some people.
It’s still not clear how Microsoft sets up these Insider rings for apps, or if all Windows Insiders are automatically added to these rings and are getting app updates before those still on the Threshold 2 release branch. We’re looking into it and we will share more details with you as soon as we have more information.
