Azure is Microsoft’s cloud computing platform, and it allows developers to build, deploy and manage applications and services through the many Microsoft data centers dotted around the world. Microsoft is spending more than $10 billion per year on those data centers because its cloud business is a huge earner for the company.
To get more people using their Azure service, Microsoft is hosting a free Azure Webinar on Oct. 6. Microsoft’s Program Manager on Azure App Service Cory Fowler and Josh Holmes CTO in Residence at Microsoft will give a tutorial on how to build PHP applications on Azure by utilizing services such as Redis, MySQL, and other tools.
Microsoft’s Azure competes with the Amazon Web Services in an attempt to become the dominant cloud platform for the future. Recently, Microsoft altered its Azure price structure to match a price drop in Amazon’s service. Even in competition, Microsoft and Amazon manage to come together from time to time. The two companies recently worked together and joined forces to secure an FAA contract.
