Microsoft wants you to buy a Surface Pro 3, offers up to $650 in Microsoft Store credit for your old MacBook Air

Microsoft has been touting the Surface Pro 3 as the tablet that can replace your laptop. Microsoft has even compared the Surface Pro 3 with the Apple MacBook Air, during the Surface Pro 3 reveal in May. Now, the company is offering up a new program where you can get up to $650 in store credit when you trade in select MacBook Air models.

Microsoft Store is offering up to $650 in store credit which can be used towards the purchase of a new Surface Pro 3, when you trade in your old MacBook Air. This offer is valid until 7/31/2014. The MacBook Air must power on to be considered working. Water-damaged devices and devices with cracked screens are not considered working devices for purposes of this offer. Trade-in value may vary too – meaning, you may not get the entire $650 credit.

The Surface Pro 3 weighs 800g and is 9.1mm thin (1.76 pounds and is 0.36 inches thin), making it lighter even though the device is bigger. Microsoft compared the weight of the Surface Pro 3 with a Macbook during the press event in May, only to see the Surface Pro 3 clearly defeat the Macbook.

The Surface Pro 3 allows you to be productive anywhere you go with its lightweight design, allowing you to easily slip the device into your bag or backpack. Powered by Windows 8.1, the Surface Pro 3 is fast and is touted as a tablet that can replace your laptop. The device also features a Surface Pen, which offers natural writing and drawing experience.

Microsoft is no stranger to offering trade-in offers for Apple devices. Back in September of 2013, Microsoft was offering up to $200 towards a Surface if you traded in your old iPad. Microsoft also has a Recycle for Rewards program, which allows people to trade in their old device for a gift card, whether it be towards an Xbox, tablet, smartphone, etc. The gift card amount varies by the value of the eligible trade-in.

Head over to your local Microsoft Store to trade in your MacBook Air.
