Microsoft updates core Windows 8.1 apps ahead of launch
Windows 8.1 is set to launch in a matter of hours, and Microsoft has started to update its core apps which are pre-installed with Windows 8.1. The app updates look to be mostly fixing things, not adding anything new. This is expected, as Microsoft did announce back in August that they were planning to continue tweaking everything in Windows 8.1 before launch. Today is launch day, and they are now pushing their tweaks!
As most updates are only bug fixes and performance improvements, you might not see any noticeable changes. The Mail app has updated its UI slightly for Folders, and the Movie Moments app also has a slight UI change. Other apps are simply being improved under the hood, which is still a good thing.
If you’re running Windows 8.1 already, make sure you install these updates by opening the Store app, opening the Charms, selecting Settings and then selecting App Updates. For those who don’t have Windows 8.1 yet, don’t worry. Windows 8.1 is set to launch for Windows 8 users in the next hour or so, so keep checking back at WinBeta for news regarding its launch!Further reading: Microsoft, Windows 8.1
