Microsoft teams up with navigation app Waze to promote Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite is one of the most-anticipated games of the year, and Microsoft has teamed up with the Google-owned navigation app Waze to promote the upcoming game in a pretty fun way. Starting today, Waze users can turn on a new Halo theme in the app that will Halo’s iconic characters, voices, and vehicles to the popular navigation app.

This new Halo-themed experience is currently available in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese, and it will differ depending on your chosen faction. By choosing the UNSC, your in-app car will be replaced by the Halo Warthog and Master Chief himself will give you directions. When choosing the Banished faction, drivers will see their car replaced with a Ghost vehicle and get their navigation directions from Echarum, the Banished chief in Halo Infinite.

This Halo experience will only be available in Waze for a limited time, and we’re wondering what the smart people working for the Xbox marketing team will do next. The worldwide marketing campaign for Halo Infinite actually started a year ago with a partnership with Monster energy drinks, but Microsoft had to change its plans after the game was delayed to fall 2021.

The first technical preview for Halo Infinite just closed its doors yesterday, and the game already made a good first impression on us. 343 Industries seems to have nailed the fundamentals with a return to a more familiar boots-on-the-ground gameplay, and it’s clear that delaying the game for another year was the right thing to do. If you haven’t done it yet, you can read our first impressions and watch our gameplay video over here.
