Microsoft Teams is finally bringing custom backgrounds for video calls and meetings to its mobile apps. According to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, custom background support will become generally available on iOS starting in mid-April, with an Android update to follow next month.

Microsoft Teams custom background effects is a popular feature that helps users preserve their privacy and keep their attention on their colleagues. This update will enable users to blur their background in a video meeting or call or replace the background with an image on iOS and Android devices. The move will bring the mobile version up to par with the Microsoft Teams desktop app, which gained support for custom backgrounds in April last year.

In addition to custom background effects, the Teams collaboration platform is adding organization-wide backgrounds for people with an Advanced Communication license. As of now, IT Admins can not manage custom backgrounds in the app but should change soon. The upcoming update will allow them to assign a custom background to the entire organization directly from the Microsoft Teams Admin Center. The Microsoft 365 roadmap indicates that org-wide backgrounds are launching in preview later this month.

Microsoft has been iterating fast on Microsoft Teams in recent months, and the company is extending several other features from the Teams desktop app to mobile. The list includes pinned chats, a new search experience, and more.
