Microsoft shutters "Olympia Corp," which was used to test beta versions of Windows in enterprise

As Microsoft continues to figure out its development and release cycles for Windows 11 and the inevitable OS that follows, it seems the company is putting Windows 10 and its related projects further in the rearview as it shuts down Olympia Corp.

According to a report from journalist Mary Jo Foley over at ZDNet, Microsoft is shutting down the Olympia program in a month's time and thus signaling the end of Windows 10 testing for Enterprise users.

In 2017, when Microsoft originally launched the Olympia project which later evolved into the Olympia Corp, it intended to host a separate enterprise-oriented Insider program to test the release of business-related features and patches for Window 10.

As Windows 10 development and support wind down to its end-of-life (EOL) deadline in 2025, it now seems the Olympia program, designed to test the release of Windows 10 enterprise features is no longer needed.

Windows Insider MVP Chris Gahlsdor shared an email issued from Microsoft about Olympia Corp being shuttered via Twitter.

Hi Olympia participant,

We are sending this email to notify you that we will formally be shutting down the Olympia program in a month. We will be unassigning Olympia licenses and deleting the Olympia feedback path.

Action Required: Take a backup of any data if you are using the provided Olympia licenses in the next 30 days, by September 12, 2022.

Thank you for your participation and feedback 🙂 Let us know if you have any questions!

Thanks,
Olympia Team

As of now, Microsoft isn't not sharing any details officially as to why the Olympia project is no more, but it seems reasonable to wager that as Microsoft further streamlines the development and release cycles of its operating systems by moving to a 3-year cadence and prioritizing enterprise and consumers separately, related Insider programs such as Olympia and others, will either evolve or die off.
