Microsoft Security Essentials still most popular security protection program in the US

New data from OPSWAT has found that Microsoft’s security protection program, Security Essentials is the most popular protection program in the United States. Standing 2nd behind the worlds favourite antivirus, Avast Free.

Data collected from the 2011 AppRemover utility, which is ran on 170,000 PCs, Microsoft Security Essentials proved to be the most popular protection program in the United States.

Microsoft Security Essentials currently holds a 15 percent share in the Antivirus market, and holds around 10 percent in the worldwide market, which makes the software second behind Avast Free, which holds a marketshare of 11.9 percent.

Microsoft Security Essentials is the free antivirus program from Microsoft, which allows users to easily scan and remove malware and viruses from their computer. Windows Security Essentials is available now on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
