Microsoft releases new firmware updates for Surface Go, Surface Go 2, and Surface Laptop Go

Microsoft has released a series of firmware updates for its Surface Go, Surface Go 2, and Surface Laptop Go. The latest batch addresses a series of issues, aiming to improve the overall stability and reliability of these devices.

For the owners of the Surface Go 2 tablets, these firmware updates should bring graphics performance and security improvements. You can get more details in the full release notes below:

  • Intel(R) UHD Graphics 615: Improves graphics and system stability.
  • Intel(R) Graphics Driver – Extension: Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Intel(R) Management Engine Interface – System devices: Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Intel(R) ICLS Client – Software devices: Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Intel(R) Management Engine Interface – Extension: Improves integration between system services.
  • Surface Setting – System devices: Resolves system orientation issue.
  • Surface ME – Firmware: Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware: Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

However, if you have the first-generation Surface Go, the set of updates will be a bit different, with some additional security updates for your PCs. Here’s what you should be seeing in Windows Update:

  • Intel(R) HD Graphics 615: 27.20.100.8681 Improves graphics and system stability.
  • Intel(R) Graphics Driver – Extension: 27.20.100.8681 Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Intel(R) ICLS Client – Extension: 1.62.321.1 Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Intel(R) ICLS Client – Software devices: 1952.14.0.1470 Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Intel(R) Management Engine Interface – System devices: 2040.100.0.1029 Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware (LTE): 1.1.20.0 Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Surface ME – Firmware: 11.8.82.3838 Addresses security updates and improves system stability.
  • Surface UEFI – Firmware (WiFi): 1.0.30.0 Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

Finally, Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Go is also getting new firmware updates today, with a handful of improvements for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, audio performance, and battery life, and you can check out the changelog below:

  • Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) OED – System devices: Improves audio performance and battery life.
  • Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) OED – System devices: Improves audio performance and battery life.
  • Realtek High Definition Audio(SST) – Sound, video, and game controllers: Improves audio performance and device stability.
  • Realtek Hardware Support Application – Software components: Improves audio performance and device stability.
  • Realtek Device Extension – Extn: Improves integration between system services.
  • Surface Integration – System devices: Improves integration between system services
  • Intel(R) WiFi 6 AX201 160MHz – Network adapters: Improves Wi-Fi reliability and stability.
  • Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth – Bluetooth: Improves Bluetooth reliability and stability.

If you own any of these devices, it’s worth keeping in mind that these updates can roll out gradually. This means that not all devices will see the March 2021 firmware updates right away, though these bits should make it to all tablets sooner rather than later.
