During the past several months, the internet has been flooded with speculation about Windows Blue (now known as Windows 8.1). When will it come? Will it be free? What will it contain? Now, Microsoft has revealed that Windows 8.1 public preview will take place at the start of Build 2013.

It was already reported that Microsoft would be releasing a public preview build during the Build 2013 developer conference in June. Now, Microsoft has given us an official date to go by! In fact, the public preview will take place on June 26th, as the Build 2013 developer conference begins.

“We have much more to share about Windows 8.1 in the coming weeks. We will also be making a public preview of Windows 8.1 available starting on June 26, timed with the Build developer conference in San Francisco. The preview will be available for Windows 8 and Windows RT,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

So there you have it. Straight from the horses mouth. Windows 8 and Windows RT will both benefit from Windows Blue and we will get to download this public preview on June 26th. Microsoft has already mentioned that this update will be free and available via the Windows Store upon its release.
