Microsoft Outlook set to revamp file sharing with OneDrive integration

Microsoft has announced an upcoming update for its widely-used email service, Outlook, which will enhance the usability of the service. Tackling the long-standing issue of attachment size limits, the update will enable users to seamlessly upload and share files via Microsoft’s cloud storage solution, OneDrive.

The existing attachment size restrictions in Outlook have often posed a challenge for users attempting to send large files. With the looming risk of exceeding the maximum size limit, crucial files have often been left undelivered.

The forthcoming update aims to put an end to this conundrum by capitalizing on the capabilities of OneDrive. Microsoft’s official 365 roadmap outlines the new functionality: when users attempt to attach files that surpass the maximum size limit or push an email over the 20MB threshold, they will receive a prompt to upload the file via OneDrive. This streamlined approach promises hassle-free sharing while sidestepping attachment-related hiccups.

Scheduled for deployment in September 2023, the update will initially roll out to Android users, followed shortly by other platforms.

This enhancement holds particular significance for individuals utilizing the free version of Microsoft Outlook and dealing with the tight constraints of Outlook and OneDrive. The brand has allocated 15GB of free storage capacity for Outlook and 5GB for OneDrive. Consequently, this update empowers free users with a consolidated storage pool of 20GB, shared between the two services.

Nonetheless, it’s evident that these limits are part of Microsoft’s strategy to entice more users into embracing their paid Microsoft 365 offerings. Premium options come with expanded storage capacities, reduced email congestion, and an overall smoother experience. This approach also presents financial advantages for the tech giant.

As Microsoft continues to innovate its services, this Outlook update marks a pivotal step toward user-centric solutions that enhance productivity and user experience.
