Microsoft offers a guided tour of the Gmail import wizard for Outlook.com

Google’s Gmail is quite a popular email service but has faced its fair share of criticism, especially by Microsoft’s Scroogled campaign. The devices and services giant rolled out a dedicated tool to help Gmail users jump on board the Outlook.com bandwagon not too long ago and Microsoft is also featuring a guided video tour of this new tool.

Microsoft’s Scroogled campaign has shed light on Gmail’s practice of scanning your inbox for advertisement purposes, and the most recent ordeal of being able to email anyone by having them in a Google+ circle. Microsoft’s “Switch From Gmail” campaign aims to help frustrated Gmail users make the switch to a more “personal” email service.

If you haven’t used the tool before, all you have to do is head over to the special website Microsoft has created and log in with your Outlook.com account. If you want all your mail from Gmail to be copied into a new set of subfolders, click Options and select that option, otherwise click Start.

Afterwards, you will need to sign into Gmail and allow the tool access to your account. Once this is done, the tool will copy emails into your Outlook.com account and you’ll be navigated back to Outlook.com. No changes will occur on your Gmail account. The migration process takes place in the background, so you can continue using Outlook.com or even log out of the service during the process. You will receive an email once the process is complete.

If you are still confused on how the process works, Microsoft has rolled out a guided tour of the tool. “Our import wizard makes it easier than ever to import your Gmail account to Outlook.com. Get started at www.switchfromgmail.com,” the video description reads. We’ve embedded the video below for your viewing pleasure. Have you made the switch from Gmail to Outlook.com yet?
