Microsoft has today announced that they are offering everyone who purchases a Surface 2 device a free 2 years of SkyDrive storage. What’s more, the storage being offered is a whopping 200GB, which will be rather difficult to fill.

With SkyDrive on Surface 2, you are able to backup your entire device to the cloud, allowing you to restore at any point on the same device or even a new one, much like the iPad. This is all thanks to SkyDrive and Windows 8.1 being tightly integrated. What’s great about this is that not only Surface users get to use it, everyone running Windows 8.1 can back up to the cloud.

For those of you who want more SkyDrive space outside of the Surface 2 device, Microsoft is offering a new storage option to add 200 GB of additional storage to your SkyDrive for $100 per year.

“With SkyDrive built right in to Windows 8.1, we’ve made it really easy to always have your files with you; and for many file types, SkyDrive is the default location for saving your files. We didn’t want you to worry about filling up your hard drive, so we invented smart files to allow you to access your entire SkyDrive from your device, without actually having to store everything locally,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

Only those who purchase a new Surface 2 device will receive the free 200GB SkyDrive storage for 2 years. So, will you be getting a new Surface device?
