Skype on Windows Phone

Microsoft has revealed today that the company will no longer be providing updates to the Skype app for Windows Phone 7. Instead, Microsoft will be focusing efforts on the future of Skype, which includes Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.

“As we look ahead to the future, we are focusing all our efforts to bring great experiences and improved performance to Windows Phone 8, building on the capabilities of the platform. As a result we are not planning to release further updates to Skype for Windows Phone 7,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

Skype has become an integral part of Microsoft’s services, including Windows 8, Windows Phone, Outlook.com, and the upcoming Xbox One. Windows Phone 8, as Microsoft states, is where the vast majority of Skype usage is.

“The Windows Phone 8 platform is gaining good momentum in the marketplace and at Skype the vast majority of our Windows Phone base and usage is on Windows Phone 8,” Microsoft adds.
