Earlier this month, Microsoft announced the budget-friendly Lumia 640 and 640 XL, carrying an extremely attractive price tag and specification. The handset is expected to launch in several markets in the coming weeks, and if you’re based in the UK, you’ll be glad to find out that Microsoft UK has started taking pre-orders of the handsets online. The Lumia 640 carries a £169.99 price tag, while its bigger sibling costs £219.00. The Lumia 640 comes in black and orange color options while the Lumia 640 XL is available in four colors: black, white, orange and blue.
As far as the availability dates are concerned, Microsoft’s product pages mention that Lumia 640 LTE will be available from April 7th, while the Lumia 640 XL will launch slightly later, that is, on April 28th in the UK.
The Lumia 640 comes with a 5-inch HD display, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor paired with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, a microSD card slot, an 8MP camera for photos and videos, a 2,500 mAh battery and ships with Windows Phone 8.1, and will be upgradeable to Windows 10 for phones when it launches later this year.
As for the bigger Lumia 640 XL, it comes with a phablet form factor with a 5.7-inch display sporting a resolution of 1,280 by 720 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage coupled with a microSD card support of up to 128GB coupled with 30GB of free OneDrive storage. The handset also boasts a 13MP camera for photos and videos, a 5MP front-facing camera, a massive 3,000 mAh battery and ships with Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim out of the box.
Both handsets offer an excellent set of specifications and a budget-friendly price tag — I would call them one of the best Windows Phone offerings from Microsoft.Further reading: Lumia, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Microsoft, Windows Phone, Windows Phone 8.1
