The latest version of the Microsoft Launcher is dropping its beta tag today. With the new version 6, Android users will enjoy a new Landscape mode and dark theme, personalized news feed updates, customizable App Icons, a new Bing wallpaper every day, and several performance improvements.

Here are the main highlights the Windows Insider team mentioned today:

  • Personalized news: Stay in the know. The personalized news feed updates throughout the day with top trending stories, making it easy to stay on top of whatever’s relevant to you.
  • Landscape mode: Microsoft Launcher supports vertical and horizontal orientations to enhance your viewing preference.
  • Customizable icons: Give your phone a consistent look and feel with custom icon packs and adaptive icons.
Beautiful wallpapers: Enjoy a fresh new wallpaper from Bing every day or choose your own photos.
  • Dark theme: Reduce eye strain when using your phone at night or in low light environments. This feature is compatible with Android’s default dark mode settings.
  • Improved performance: Microsoft Launcher now loads faster, uses less memory, is more battery efficient, and offers fluent animations.

The new version will roll out gradually to Android phones running version 7.0 or higher, but some features such as System dark theme are only supported on Android 8.0 or newer. Microsoft also noted that native Android 10 navigation gestures may not work for all phone manufacturers and models.

If you’ll be upgrading from previous versions of the Launcher, be aware that Sticky notes sync issues may occur after installing the v6. Moreover, you may also need to enable notification badges again after upgrading. You can learn more about how to get started with the Microsoft Launcher on this FAQ.
