A couple of months ago, Microsoft started to consolidate its various Lumia social media accounts, shutting down several local Facebook and Twitter accounts including the @LumiaHelp Twitter support account. The Redmond giant did the same streamlining effort on Instagram, merging all local accounts with the central Microsoft Lumia channel. “This is all to make it easier for you to be part of our international, larger, Microsoft family,” explained the company at the time.
The @shotonmyLumia Instagram account, which features beautiful pictures shot by Lumia users managed to survived so far, though it now seems that its days are numbered. In a post published yesterday, Microsoft announced that the account will also merge with the main Microsoft Lumia account. The company explained its decision by reiterating the same statement that it made a few months ago:
Our Instagram account will soon be @MicrosoftLumia. Don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything and you’ll still get beautiful images shot on a #Lumia straight to your feed. This is all to make it easier for you to be part of our international, larger, Microsoft family.

This Instagram account currently has 24k followers, which is far less than the 324k users following the main Lumia account on the popular social network. In fact, both accounts pretty much had the same purpose as the main Lumia Instagram account mostly shares pictures shot by Lumia users as of today.
Overall, we’re not surprised to see Microsoft doing more house cleaning as Lumia handsets are now running out of stock in the US and other markets. The Lumia brand clearly seems to be on the way out, and we’ll see if Microsoft keeps streamlining its social media presence in the coming months.
