Microsoft: Gears of War 3 sells three million copies in one week
Microsoft is bragging about its Gears of War 3 sales, and rightfully so. Apparently, Gears of War 3, an exclusive title to the Xbox 360, has sold over three million copies in just one week since its launch on the 20th of September.
“Gears of War was the first killer app for Xbox 360, and the series has continued to contribute directly to the overall success of the platform ever since. Gears of War 3 kicked off the biggest holiday in Xbox history with a bang last week, setting the standard for the kinds of amazing, action-packed experiences gamers should expect on Xbox 360 this year,” Microsoft Corporate Vice President Phil Spencer stated.
Of course Microsoft will be excited about this amazing feat. Microsoft believes that Gears of War 3 has kicked off the largest and most successful holiday season for the Xbox 360 console since its release. Microsoft will be working on releasing several high profile games by the end of the year to further push the software sales figure.
To give you an idea, Joystiq was quoted saying, “On one side, it represents a powerful elegy, a close to a series that has done much to define this console generation. It’s a melancholy thing, seeing a solid conclusion for characters that a lot of us liked despite ourselves, that make themselves even more understood in the end. But Gears of War 3 does it with respect and grace, and even subtlety, for a fantastic experience from start to finish. And it bestows a postscript of one of the most full featured, fun, and polished multiplayer experiences I’ve ever played.”
The official Xbox Magazine has also been praising the game calling it the “ultimate realization” of the Xbox 360 console, similar to how Halo 2 was for the original Xbox.Further reading: Microsoft, Xbox 360
