Microsoft Garage, home to creative apps like Arrow Launcher, gets site redesign

Jack Wilkinson

Microsoft’s Garage platform has been making strides recently with its Video Breakdown project, along with releasing 5 apps built by interns at the company. Microsoft Garage allows employees at the company to try out new technologies, develop for competing companies and just have a go at doing something a little different.

Now, their own site has received a bit of a makeover. Before we get into it, let’s take a look at the old design:

Then the new design:

From looking at the updated design, it appears that the aim was to put the actual projects as the front-and-centre, as the featured projects are now shown at the top-left, with the latest and recently updated floating to the centre and right. They’ve also cut out the huge welcome text and placed it in the initial slider towards the top.

Throughout the design, they have added a little more padding to areas – such as the menu, which now has a gap beneath the menu item and the header background, while also improving the look of the overall font.
