Microsoft has introduced a new feature in the Microsoft Edge Canary channel to make it easier for you to protect your online accounts from hackers (via Deskmodder). The new built-in Password Monitor, a feature that was announced during the March 30 Microsoft 365 event, constantly checks your passwords for potential data breaches.
Those running the latest version of Microsoft Edge Canary (85.0.531.0) can access the Password Monitor setting “Show alerts when passwords are found in an online leak” by heading to Settings > Profile > Passwords. Once enabled, your browser may take a couple of minutes to scan and immediately display a notification (as shown above) if your credentials are listed in a database of compromised passwords.
You can then click the “View details” option to open a dashboard in Settings, which lists all your leaked credentials and directs you to the respective websites to change your password. Once you change the password and save the new credentials to autofill, you can now continue browsing with the peace of mind that your password is no longer compromised.
It is worth noting that the feature is gradually rolling out for all Microsoft Edge Canary users, so there is a possibility that you may not see it today. As of this writing, there is no ETA for Password Monitor to land in the Stable channel, but the feature should go live on the Dev channel soon.
