Many websites utilize HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure) instead of the increasingly outmoded HTTP protocol. Yet, Edge has been a bit slower than some browsers to implement automatic HTTPS.
However, Microsoft has just confirmed Edge v92 will incorporate automatic HTTPS.
Microsoft confirms automatic HTTPS for Edge v92
The big M confirmed it will add automatic HTTPS to Edge on a 365 roadmap page. There Microsoft announced automatic HTTPS for its flagship browser as follows:
Starting with Microsoft Edge version 92, users will have the option to upgrade navigations from HTTP to HTTPS on domains likely to support this more secure protocol. This support can also be configured to attempt delivery over HTTPS for all domains.
At the moment, automatic HTTPS for Edge is in development. So, users will need to wait for Microsoft to release Edge 92. The big M has confirmed a July 2021 release month for Edge 92.
What is HTTPS?
HTTPS is a more secure browser protocol than HTTP that establishes connections with hosting servers. While the HTTP protocol is not encrypted, HTTPS shuffles web traffic through SSL encrypted tunnels.
Thus, there can be no doubt HTTPS is more preferable to HTTP. Edge currently redirects from HTTP to HTTPS. However, Edge 92 will likely open pages a bit quicker with HTTPS as its default option.

So, Edge will soon become a more secure browser with automatic HTTPS thanks to the upcoming v.92 update.
There can be little doubt that Chromium Edge is an altogether better browser than it used to be that keeps getting better with further Microsoft updates.
