During the Qualcomm keynote at CES 2013 in Las Vegas, Microsoft’s very own CEO Steve Ballmer made a surprise appearance and participated in the showcasing of Windows RT and Windows Phone 8, as well as the unveiling of a new Snapdragon 800 processor.
Ballmer touted Microsoft’s Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and the Xbox Smartglass feature during the Qualcomm keynote. Ballmer helped showcase the Samsung ATIV and Dell XPS 10, which are both powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor and Microsoft’s Windows RT operating system. Ballmer didnt really announce anything new during the keynote, but simply showcased what we already know about the company’s flagship products, such as Windows and Windows Phone.
Qualcomm, on the other hand, announced the flagship Snapdragon 800, touted as the most advanced processor ever built for smartphones and tablets. This new processor will deliver a 75% boost in performance and power efficiency. Qualcomm stated during the keynote that the new Snapdragon 800 processor will be available in devices by the second half of 2013.
Microsoft wasn’t scheduled to be at this years CES, so it came as a surprise to everyone to see Microsoft’s CEO make an appearance. Perhaps Microsoft figured it would make a guest appearance in a keynote to showcase its devices, rather than hold a keynote of their own at the event.
