When you own a company or business, keeping tabs on how users are accessing information is vital to a company’s compliance and general legal requirements. The ability to easily generate reports on such those activities is equally vital. Microsoft has taken this to heart, and today is announcing an important update for admins within SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business accounts.

As part of the update, admins now have the ability to to audit and report on numerous activities that take place within SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business. Admins can now access the Compliance Center Reports tab and generate reports on user activity by clicking “Start recording user and admin activities.” This will then yield the admin upload, delete, download, and other file and folder activities for the users.  In the same section, reports can also be customized by user or file within a specific date range, perfect for instances such as a compliance review.

Microsoft has also increased the per-file size limit for these type of accounts to 10 GB for files uploaded to Team Sites, Office 365 Groups, OneDrive for Business, and for videos added to Office 365 Video portal. This means that Office 365 users will no longer be required to scatter larger files on their hard drives and file shares.

In addition, Office 365 storage allotments are being increased by 300% annually. The default storage allotment for the SharePoint Online, Office 365 Groups, and Office 365 Video has been upped to 1TB from 10GB. As we’ve noted in the past, premium office 365 Enterprise, Govnerment, and Education subscribers enjoy unlimited OneDrive for Business storage capacity.

There are also several additional service updates that bring increased ease of use.  Recommended Sites have been enhanced with Office Graph intelligence, specifically listing Recent Sites. Emails from user-generated actions are also now sent from an Exchange Online mailbox, which makes delivery of emails to the appropriate inbox more reliable.
