We reported earlier today that Microsoft was planning to push an update to the Band 2 that enables the nifty new Explore tile that enables a number of features for making hikes more trackable and fun. UV metering, hydration and food reminders, points of interest, etc. are all making their way to the Band 2, significantly enhancing Microsoft’s fitness tracker when it comes to enjoying the wilderness and getting healthy at the same time.
Although Microsoft indicated that the update would be released “in the coming days,” they’re apparently in no mood to wait. The Android app has already been updated, bringing the Band 2 firmware update along with it.
Here’s the changelog:
WHAT’S NEW
– Connect and compete with your friends – Create challenges for steps, cardio minutes, runs, and bike rides between you and your Facebook friends who also use Microsoft Health.
– Get out and explore with Microsoft Band 2 and the Explore tile – Track your walk with Microsoft Band. Record distance, elevation change, and more. Drop points of interest on your map as you go.
– Bug Fixes
You’ll want to keep checking the Windows Store on your Windows phone and the App Store on your iOS device, just in case Microsoft pushes the updates over there as well. If you’re using an Android device, then go hit update in the Play Store, or hit the installation button below.
