Microsoft announces changes to Core client-access-license
In a rare move, Microsoft announced plans to make changes to their Core client-access-license (CAL), which is currently offered as a special corporate license agreement combining Windows Server, Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, and System Center Configuration Manager. Microsoft will be adding Lync and Forefront Endpoint Security to the Core CAL.
As Mary Jo Foley reports, the Core CAL, currently priced at $80 per user, will increase to $89 to accommodate the addition of the new products. Microsoft hopes that the addition of Lync and Forefront Endpoint Security will entice more customers to their Enterprise Licensing options.
The core changes were announced during the recent Microsoft Management Summit and will be introduced in August 2011.
