Microsoft and Google are some of the tech giants backing Strong Net Neutrality rules

Net Neutrality has been on everyone’s mind recently. It seems like every year, the powers that be put in effort to try and weaken regulations on Net Neutrality, and big internet-dependent companies need to step in and smack sense into people. Unfortunately, with a new administration in charge in the U.S., the latest threat to a free and open internet is much more legitimate than it has been. Microsoft and Google have taken this as a sign to get back out there fighting against loosened regulations.

Microsoft has joined companies like Google and Amazon in fighting for Net Neutrality, trying to rally against a proposal that would erode the FCC’s authority to regulate internet companies, and would potentially remove the currently held ban against internet fast lanes – something that would have disastrous consequences, ranging from poorer internet speeds to higher bills for the people paying for internet.

On top of the legal requests that Microsoft is making, we’ll also likely be seeing a lot more in the way of direct requests from these companies to fight the proposal. As more and more websites sign up to the cause of fighting dangerous legislation like this, we may see things like ads or pop-ups forcing us to pay attention to this significant issue.
