Microsoft acquires cloud migration company Movere

Microsoft, Azure

Microsoft is continuing to bolster its Azure services through acquisition, this time with the addition of cloud migration company Movere to the arsenal. Movere seeks to make it easier for companies to move to the cloud, having learned some of the pitfalls over the last eleven years as it grew as a consulting company working to provide actionable data, “giving customers the power of the story that only data can tell.” Movere has been working closely with Microsoft over the years, and Microsoft is pushing hard to get more and more companies to make the move to the cloud, so this is a natural fit.

Microsoft sees the acquisition as a complement to both Azure Migrate and other 3rd party solutions in helping make the move, according to Jeremy Winter in an Azure Blog post announcing the acquisition:

Movere’s innovative discovery and assessment capabilities will complement Azure Migrate and our integrated partner solutions, making migration an easier process for our customers. We believe that successful cloud migrations enable business transformation, and this acquisition underscores our investments to make that happen.

Together, Azure Migrate, Movere, and our ecosystem of independent software vendor (ISV) partners’ solutions provide choice and a comprehensive set of capabilities from discovery, assessment, to migration and optimization. We aim to streamline our customers’ journey to the cloud, enabling them to bring innovation and transformation with the power of Azure.

Microsoft has been increasing its pace of Azure acquisitions lately, as it continues to build out what’s quickly becoming the center of the company’s focus as it moves beyond Windows and Office.
