Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has already become the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time, according to Sony. This designation pertains to first-day sales, with Spider-Man 2 selling over 2.5 million units in its first 24 hours.

Both Insomniac Games and PlayStation announced the accomplishment on social media, thanking all those who have purchased the game so far. Spider-Man 2 officially launched on October 20.

This impressive feat should probably come as no surprise given the anticipation that has surrounded the game’s release, and the reputation of the its predecessor. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has also received critical acclaim and has already been called on of the year’s best games.

SVP of Global Marketing, Sales, and Business Operations for Sony Interactive Entertainment Eric Lempel said of the “high flying launch,” (via Marvelous News)

Insomniac Games holds itself to incredibly high standards when it comes to delivering engaging and innovative gameplay experiences…

…With an epic storyline, two playable Super Heroes, a visually-stunning Marvel’s New York, and so much more, this is a game you can get lost in for hours. On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I want to say thank you to the fans – we truly hope you are enjoying your time playing as Peter and Miles in this amazing adventure.

Being a PlayStation Studios title, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is of course a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
