The first look at gameplay from the upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga video game was revealed today via a new trailer.
The trailer, which you can watch below, features scenes and characters from across the various time periods of the Star Wars films on which the game is based and showcases a bit of a leap forward in terms of graphics for the LEGO games compared to some of the older titles. In fact, the new official page for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on Xbox website confirms that the game will support both 4K and HDR, a first for the franchise.
In addition to launching on Microsoft’s Xbox One console, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is also set for release on the upcoming Xbox Series X and will be optimized for the next gen console with an expected 60 frames-per-second gameplay. A Windows 10 version has also been confirmed though it’s unclear if it will support cross-buy with the console versions.
Curiously, it now seems as if LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be coming out sometime in spring 2021 instead of October this year. No reason has been given for the delay though it’s likely that the global pandemic has played at least some role.
A new game description has also been released:
The galaxy is yours with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga! Play through all nine Star Wars saga films in a brand-new LEGO video game unlike any other! Fly through the galaxy to discover the saga’s most legendary locations, and switch between stories at will. From podracing on Tatooine in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace to the epic showdowns of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Want to play as a Jedi? A Sith? Rebel, bounty hunter, or droid? LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga features hundreds of playable characters from throughout the galaxy. Whether on land or in space, a variety of vehicles are yours to command. Jump to light speed in the Millennium Falcon, fly the T-47 Airspeeder and battle TIE fighters in Resistance X-wings… it’s the ultimate LEGO Star Wars experience.
It’s actually been a while since a LEGO Star Wars game was released. The latest entry in the franchise was LEGO STAR WARS: The Force Awakens which came out back in 2016. No game adaption of The Last Jedi was ever made, probably because of the lack of plot, locations, and action sequences in that film.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will feature completely new content based on The Force Awakens in addition to locations, sequences, and characters from The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Fresh gameplay inspired by the previous six films will also be included.
In other Star Wars news, Star Wars Battlefront II is currently free to play on Xbox One consoles this weekend.
