Latest Xbox One Alpha Ring Update fixes an issue with screen dimming

Just three days after rolling out the first 1705 Xbox One preview build to Preview Alpha members, the Xbox team released yesterday a minor update which fixes a screen dimming issue during video playback. There are also two known issues in this build affecting the Xbox Store and the brand new Party overlay, but fortunately there are easy workarounds.

You can find the full changelog below:

FIXES:

  • Screen Dimming Fixed an issue which sometimes caused the screen to dim during video playback.

KNOWN ISSUES:

  • Store You will be unable to access the Store when the console is set to one of the following language and region configurations: English (Greece), English (Czech Republic), English (Hungary), English (Slovakia). This issue will be resolved in an upcoming update. Workaround: Set the console to a language and region configuration which is not one of the four mentioned above.
  • Party Overlay Small black squares may be displayed on screen after using the party overlay. Workaround: Disable the party overlay when you are not in a party.

In the Reddit thread, Microsoft’s Brad Rossetti also shared that the Xbox team could soon change how the different Xbox Insider rings work. “We have heard a lot of feedback on the new Rings and changing soon on how you can move between the rings based on your feedback,” he explained. Unlike the Windows Insider Program which lets you choose your preferred Insider Ring (Fast, Slow or Release Preview), the Xbox Insider Program is currently based on meritocracy, and only the most dedicated Xbox Insiders get access to the Preview Alpha Ring.

We’ll let you know if we learn more about these upcoming changes to the Xbox Insider Program, sound off in the comments if you also think that the program needs to be more flexible.
