ALTBalaji, a subsidiary of Balaji Telefilms, India’s leading television and movie production company, recently launched a video on-demand service which is now available as a UWP app for both Windows 10 PCs as well as mobile.

ALTBalaji aims to focus on an alternative to mainstream Indian entertainment with original content along with a library of movies of TV shows. At the moment though, there’s limited content with much of the catalogue listed as ‘coming soon’.

While the app is free and available for Windows 10 PCs, tablets, and phones, you’d need to subscribe for premium content while a large portion of content will be available for free as well. The app will feature content in Hindi, English, and regional Indian languages.

While it is a crowded video streaming market with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video as well as local players like Hotstar, Voot, Eros Now, HOOQ, and Sony LIV, only Netflix and Hotstar have apps for Windows 10, and the latter is just a barebones, web wrapper app. So, Windows users might just welcome ALTBalaji if it manages to offer diverse and interesting content.

The app has a dark UI with seamless navigation. It works quite well, and the streaming too is pretty good. The app also offers parental controls to ensure your kids watch age-appropriate stuff. Give it a whirl, and let us know how you like it. Download the ALTBalaji app from Windows Store here.
