As promised, the Halo 5: Guardians TV commercial aired yesterday on NBC, giving us the bad news that the game’s main character, Master Chief, has died (via Xbox Wire).
The trailer starts off in an industrial canteen, 500 years in the future (as a nice touch it’s on October 27th, the same day the game is released this year), giving the bad news that Master Chief is no more. The commercial continues to show the devastation and destruction as it proceeds to show military personnel and people with the commercial ending up showing the Master Chief below the debris, not in the best condition. Obviously it’s the first commercial trailer and there’s more to it than this.
Halo 5 Guardians is set to launch on October 27th and is available for pre-order for Xbox One. It would be interesting to see what Microsoft and 343 Industries have planned for the upcoming title. Is Master Chief really dead? We’ll find out about it in a month’s time.
This latest ad is a continuation of the game’s extensive ad campaign and is also a live action trailer. This major twist is a heavy bomb (or plasma grenade) to drop on fans inside of a commercial.
