How to install Windows Media Center on Windows 10

Windows Media Center being excluded from Windows 10 probably didn’t bother too many people. We haven’t heard of any online riots protesting the exclusion, but, niches exist, and for some people, Windows Media Center is big deal. WindowsBlogItalia figured out a way to get the application running on Windows 10.

Step 1: Start by downloading the application package via Mega.nz (53.8MB)

Step 2: Extract the downloaded RAR file

Step 3: Right-click _TestRights.cmd and click ‘Run as administrator’

Step 4: Right-click Installer.cmd and click ‘Run as administrator’

Step 5: Once prompted to ‘Press any key to exit’, do so, then use Cortana to search for ‘Media Center’

Step 6 (Optional): Pin Media Center to the taskbar for easy access. Otherwise, you will find the app under Windows Accessories in the Start Menu.

Windows Media Center

Windows Media Center seems to work without issue on Windows 10, and works just as it did in previous versions of Windows. It will automatically detect your default media libraries for pictures, music, and videos, and had no trouble displaying or playing any of the file formats it supports. Media Center can also expand to proper full screen mode and playing music while a background of albums fade in bring back fond memories.
