Annapurna Pictures has announced it will open a new animation division. The studio, which has already contributed on projects like Sausage Party and Missing Link, will be headed by Disney alums Robert Baird and Andrew Millstein, both formerly of Blue Sky Studios.

The studio’s first project will be the forthcoming comic book adaptation Nimona, which will release sometime in 2023 on Netflix. The film will feature Chloë Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed as voice talent. Annapurna CEO and founder Megan Ellison said of Baird and Millstein’s involvement,

“Working with them and the Nimona team has been an incredible experience and we cannot wait for audiences to see the film. We believe adding animation alongside our other divisions, in combination with the depth of our catalog, will lead to tremendous opportunities. Anything is possible.”

Annapurna is best known for its Annapurna Interactive game division. Since its founding in 2016 Annapurna Interactive has developed several indie gaming classics, a few of which are listed below.

  • What Remains of Edit Finch
  • The Outer Wilds
