How to get ready for Windows 10 Mobile build 10136 tomorrow

Windows 10 Mobile

Windows 10 Mobile build 10136 is on its way to the Windows Insider’s fast ring tomorrow. In order to receive the preview build you have to do a few things that you normally do not have to due to a bug. Namely, if you’re running a phone with Windows 10 Mobile installed, you have to roll your phone back to Windows 8.1, opt in to the fast ring and wait until tomorrow. Here’s a quick run through of how to get your device ready.

If you are already on a preview build such as build 10080 you have to roll back your device using the Windows Phone Recovery Tool. Remember that doing this erases ALL of your content including apps, games, call history, texts, etc. If you’re going to do this make sure you backup everything accordingly.

Next up, you need to have the Windows Insider App and set it fast ring. This gets you the earlier public preview builds for your device. To get build 10136 you have to wait until tomorrow to opt in for the update because if you roll back and update your phone today you will receive build 10080, stay tuned to WinBeta and we’ll let you know when the new build goes live. Specifically Gabe Aul has clarified that build 10080 will be taken down today at 10am PST so make sure you don’t update until after Microsoft makes the switch.

If don’t want to roll back to Windows 8.1 you can wait until the next build which will have the bug fix and let you update from your current preview build to the next.

Build 10136 is “significantly better” than build 10080. Gabe Aul pointed out that it has thousands of improvements. As always we advise you to proceed with caution though as even improved preview builds have bugs as they are not finalized products.
