Every great company has a story, and Microsoft is no exception to that. The Redmond giant was officially founded 41 years today in 1975 when co-founders Paul Allen launched a business to sell the Altair BASIC interpreter for the MITS Altair 8800 personal computer.
The operations were originally centered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but the location later moved as the company evolved. After success in the 1980’s with DOS and Windows, the company moved to its current headquarters in Redmond, Washington. Even so, the original Microsoft company location is still present today at 115 California Street in New Mexico, and a plaque is there to mark the historical event of the founding of Microsoft.
In its 40 year history, Microsoft has no doubt left a large impact in world history and perhaps even our culture. From contributions to charities, Microsoft Office, Windows, Surface, Skype, and Xbox, Microsoft has ever so evolved as a company since the Altair days. The company has no doubt left their mark as once of the biggest giants in the history of the technology industry.Further reading: Microsoft
