Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One gets yet another content update

Another content update was released today for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. This latest content update features improvements to matchmaking, roster, custom games, and game achievements. The last content update was a little more than a week ago on December 7th. This latest content update addresses more issues with matchmaking; hopefully there will be less and less updates for matchmaking issues. Half the fun is playing on Xbox Live, and if you are having issues with just getting online, it seems that Halo: The Master Chief Collection was a half-baked plan from the start.

Here is a breakdown of the latest content update to Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Matchmaking. Improvements were made to the Matchmaking party reliability, an update made for loading screens to use Voice Chat, and a fix was applied for Halo 2 matchmaking that allows split-screen players to always be on the same team. There is also some updates to the roster; including fixes to reduce the amount of time it takes to update the roster, changes to the roster are more immediate to reflect Xbox Live friend activity.

Parties and Custom Games also got more improvements this week. For Parties, there were several updates to party management and joining. Also, there were a couple of updates for general Party fixes. Custom Games got a good deal of content updates as well. Most of the updates address issues that deal with general bug fixes and stability improvements. Two new Xbox Live Achievements’ issues were fixed:

  • “Legend Slayer” achievement unlocks when prerequisites are met
  • “Pacifist” Achievement will no longer be unlocked for resuming “Assault on the Control Room”

More general stability improvements were released in this content update for Matchmaking, Custom Games, Campaign Playlists, and Main Menu bug fixes. There were also two updates to button layouts, addressing issues for the Halo 2 “Green Fingers,” and Anniversary Multiplayer Recon controller button layout. There will likely be more updates to follow before Halo: The Master Chief Collection is as close to perfect as it should have been when it was released. There is already an indication for a new Halo: The Master Chief Collection content update as noted at the bottom of the Content Update Note description page:

*Note: The team is aware that “Legacy” controls are incorrectly functioning as “Default” in Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 4, and are working to resolve this issue in an upcoming update. We will continue to work on additional content updates to further improve the game.

Eventually, I am sure everyone hopes that there will be fewer content updates for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. However, it does not look like that time will be coming anytime soon.
