Halo Infinite won’t treat Xbox One as “second-class citizen,” 343 Industries says

If Halo Infinite is expected to be a launch title for the next gen “Project Scarlett” Xbox console next year, the latest installment in the popular Halo franchise will also be released on the Xbox One family of consoles. The OG Xbox One and Xbox One S are definitely starting to show their age at the end of this console generation, but developer 343 Industries is committed to make Halo: Infinite run great on all Xbox One consoles.

Frank O’Connor, Halo franchise development director at 343 Industries recently said so in an interview with YouTuber Blackmist523 (via IGN). “Obviously the special citizen [for Halo Infinite] will be Scarlett, and we’ve worked with that hardware team to make sure the game shows up amazingly on it… but it will [also] be for Xbox One and it will look incredible,” O’Connor said.

“The Xbox One is not going to be a second-class citizen,” he added. “We’re building it so it plays and looks fantastic on Xbox One, and then everything else is plus-plus-plus, but we’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves that we’re thinking about.” As you may know, Halo 5: Guardians used a dynamic resolution to achieve 60 FPS on Xbox One, and Halo: Infinite will likely use a similar technique to provide a smooth gameplay experience on Xbox One.

 

343 Industries is developing a new engine for Halo: Infinite called Slipspace, which we first saw in a E3 2018 trailer for the game. We still don’t have many details about Halo: Infinite except this new engine, but 343 Industries confirmed that the game will also launch on Windows 10 next year and bring back support for split-screen multiplayer on console. Microsoft also recently snagged Ninja, who started out on Halo, presumably to help hype Halo Infinite.

Halo: Infinite probably won’t be the last big blockbuster game to launch on Xbox One next year, but it should be one the few titles that pushes the Xbox One hardware to its limits, especially since 343 Industries and other game developers are now very familiar with the hardware. Anyway, the family of Xbox One consoles should continue to be supported in the years to come, especially since all Xbox One games and accessories will be compatible with Project Scarlett.
