Update: The official Halo Twitter account had this to say, denying that Halo 3 ODST would be arriving this Friday, despite earlier reports: “A placeholder release date for the ODST campaign for Halo: The Master Chief Collection was inadvertently listed on the Xbox Store. We continue final testing and will make an official announcement once our release date is determined, and apologize for any confusion.” You can read the original story below.
Players of Halo: The Master Chief Collection may receive a free gift this Friday in the form of the Halo 3: ODST campaign mode. A page was spotted on Xbox.com that listed the release date as May 29th but that page has since been taken down. The ever vigilant Reddit community made sure that it was noticed and has a lengthy thread on the topic.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection has had well documented struggles but 343 Industries has been working full tilt to fix them for months. In addition to fixing bugs through updates they have offered free gifts to early adopters who had to deal with the struggles, specifically anyone who played the game between its launch on November 11, 2014 and December 19, 2014. One of those promised free gifts is the Halo 3: ODST campaign.
Last month it was reported that the campaign was on track to arrive in May and if the taken down Xbox.com page is accurate, 343 industries will have kept to that timetable.
The Xbox.com page that was taken down specifically mentioned the ODST campaign but there was no mention of the Relic multiplayer map which was also listed as part of the May content update. That being said, news outlets including Windows Central are stating that it will arrive this Friday as well. Windows Central also pointed out that when it does arrive it have an upgraded resolution of 1080p and a quick frame rate of 60fps.
