Hack your Xbox One into a dev unit, but Microsoft doesn’t recommend it
Microsoft is keen to get as many people as possible developing games for its latest console, the Xbox One. The [email protected] program makes it easier than ever for anyone with an idea for a game to bring it to life and get it published. A video detailing how to transform any Xbox into a developer console has emerged online, but Microsoft is warning against taking the drastic step.
The idea of turning your Xbox One into a dev kit unit may be appealing, but Microsoft is recommending that users do not do it — and also provides details of how to reverse the steps if you have already done so.
The original instructional video explains that you need to enter a Sandbox ID to crete your own devkit, but some users who have tried it warn that there is a risking of bricking your console and getting it stuck in a boot loop.
Microsoft had the following to say:
“Changing the settings in this menu is only intended for developers for Xbox One, and this alone does not turn the console into a development kit. We strongly advise consumers against changing these settings as it could result in their Xbox One becoming unusable. Customers who have put their consoles into this developer setting can revert by restoring factory defaults under Settings / System, select Restore Factory Defaults.”
