Getac B300 Windows 10 Laptop

Earlier today, Getac announced their 6th generation B300 laptop which will be powered by Windows 10 and is, according to Getac, “Ideal for military personnel, law enforcement and field technicians.”

The Getac B300 is powered by Intel’s 6th generation Skylake Core i7 processor and features dual hot swappable batteries that provide up to 30 hours of power. The 13.3” screen is apparently Getac’s brightest to date and a special one-touch feature allows the screen to be read by a user wearing night vision goggles. The back-lit keyboard is colored red. This isn’t a stylistic choice though and is done to, “avoid silhouetting, an essential feature for officer safety and covert operations,” the official press release reads. This isn’t a device for the everyday user.

Security is a big feature of the Getac B300 with a combination of TPM 2.0, Windows 10 security, and BitLocker protecting users’ data. There’s also support for fingerprint reading and a SmartCard reader along with support for Windows Hello, Microsoft Passport and Credential Guard. The sides and rear of the Getac B300 feature three USB 3.0, HDMI, VGA, LAN, two serial ports, and one mic input or audio output.

The chassis is made out of magnesium alloy and is described as, “virtually indestructible” and is “MIL-STD 810G- and IP65-certified to survive drops up to six feet, driving rainstorms, dust, sand and extreme temperatures, from -20°F to 140°F (operating temperature) and -40°F to 160°F (storage temperature).” The entire model weighs 7.7 lbs (or 3.5 kg).

The president of Getac ,Scott Shainman, says of the device, “The B300 is an ultra-rugged performer that has consistently delivered at the highest level in some of the most dangerous and extreme environments in the world. But to address the mounting threat in cyberspace, Getac has taken every precaution by combining several layers of hardware and software security technology to protect against breaches and unauthorized access to sensitive information.  By combining this technology with our renowned rugged design, we believe we have created the most durable and secure mobile computing device available.”

A price has not yet been revealed for the Getac B300 but interested parties can get a quote on the official site. Would you be interested in a device such as this? Discuss in the comments below.
